About The Flag Twins
A true powerhouse and brand unto themselves, Kevin and Karl were discovered several years ago for their potential in modelling and fashion. Since then, they have channelled their creative talents into various mediums – especially publishing and music. The twins helm a successful biannual magazine and are renowned DJs known as HE&D, which stands for House, Electronic and Dance. Despite their numerous achievements and successes, what remarkably stands out is their boundless energy, optimism, and humility.
Tell us a little bit about the Flag Twins?
Our journey started 10 years ago when our father passed, we grew up fast after. Coming from South East London, there’s a lot of influences, positive and negative, but we’re blessed to have grown up in a good home. Our parents allowed us to express ourselves freely and have the platform to be who we wanted to be.
How did this all begin?
About 5 to 6 years ago we were ‘discovered’ and got into modelling and fashion, it wasn’t something we anticipated but just fell into. Since then, we have harnessed our creativity and expression through other mediums, we got into publishing and now publish a bi—annual magazine called MSM, WHICH IS A Gen Z magazine. Subsequently, we started getting involved in music.
Could you tell us a little bit more about your foray into the music scene?
Covid was a very interesting time for everybody, was a time of uncertainty but a time for discovery. The guy at pioneer sent us a pair of DJ decks, we just self-taught ourselves how to DJ three years ago. The DJ-ing is more so a front for us to engage with different energies and people. We are massive connectors; music is like paintings but we connect sonically with our audience. We come in to bring the room together regardless of class or differences. That’s our energy!
Our brand is called HEAD, it stands for House, Electronic and everything in between Dance. Regardless, we combine different genres. We discovered new sounds, artists and soundscapes. We started to host parties around London adjacent to the magazine. We used to be known the party boys, the Peckham boys partying in Mayfair, it was a funny one. Our creative energy is transferable whether its through fashion, visual, music and expression. We come in to bring the
Are there any mistakes you have learned from?
Kevin: The mistake I’ve made personally is thinking everything defines me. Being a perfectionist that’s young and ambitious we constantly get caught up in thinking our mistakes define us. It’s more so about taking those mistakes and learning from them. So based off that, my mistake is letting my mistakes define me.
Karl: My mistake is thinking every loss is a loss but every loss is a lesson.
Define Home in 3 words?
Kevin: Comfortable, renaissance, home from home.
Karl: Viewsy, timeless, decadent
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Karl: Don’t ‘fake it till you make it’, create your own reality. If you fake it till you make it, you’re acting in an inauthentic way because you are selling yourself short getting to a place you don’t even know you might like if you get there. But if you create your own reality, you’re doing it with authenticity creating a version of yourself you know you can be.
Kevin: The best advice I was given was; when you make a bit of money, travel. It’s about being immersed in different cultures and being aware of what the world has to offer. We are so conditioned to thinking where we live now is the best but travelling has allowed me to learn about so many things and different cultures.
Quote to live by…
Kevin: If you want to go fast, go by yourself, if you want to go far, go with others. Our whole brand is about collaboration.
Karl: I try to create ladders for myself to climb higher. Everyone has an end goal but I believe in constantly elevating and achieving more.
Guilty pleasure?
Karl: 70’s music and movies, I love them. If I wasn’t born when I was born, I would be living in the 70’s! There’s just something about that period for me.
Kevin: Game of Thrones!
Favourite cocktail / tipple of choice?
Karl: Espresso Martini, allows you to get lit while staying awake.
Kevin: Mai Tai, I am a tropical guy!
